Overview

Objective

The Guinness China A Share Fund seeks capital growth and invests in high-quality companies in the China A share market exposed to structural growth themes.

Investment Approach

Rising incomes, shifting demographics and advancing technology are creating identifiable investment themes in China across consumer, industrial and infrastructure sectors. This presents international investors a compelling opportunity in a market ripe with inefficiencies.

The Guinness China A Share Fund uses these themes to assemble a concentrated portfolio of high-quality, profitable companies exposed to mainland China's economic development.

China A Share

July Commentary

This is a marketing communication. Please refer to the prospectus, supplement, KIDs and KIIDs for the Funds (available on this website), which contain detailed information on their characteristics and objectives and full information on the risks, before making any final investment decisions.

Onshore Chinese equities have experienced strong performance year-to-date, with the MSCI China A Onshore Index rising 15.6% (in USD) and outperforming the MSCI World Index, which rose 9.7%. However, headline returns masked highly concentrated performance in the onshore market, with AI-related Information Technology stocks accounting for the majority of returns. Consumer sectors, banks and other areas linked to the domestic economy were much weaker. The valuation of Information Technology stocks in the onshore market has risen sharply, from 30.8x to 46.9x, on a forward price/earnings basis. This means the stocks now trade at almost twice the valuation of their developed-market counterparts, represented by the MSCI World Information Technology Index, which trades at 23.5x forward earnings.
