Guinness Global Real Assets
Überblick
The Guinness Global Real Assets strategy seeks capital growth and income by investing in listed infrastructure and real estate companies worldwide.
Real assets can play a vital and hard-to-replicate role in traditional portfolios, providing defensive stocks characteristics through performance, growing income and inflation protection.
By investing in real estate investment trusts (REITs) and listed infrastructure companies through a real assets fund, investors can access the differentiation they provide while maintaining liquidity.
The Guinness Global Real Assets Fund invests in a diversified mix of real asset stocks with a focus on high-quality companies generating persistent returns on capital.
Real asset companies often operate the indispensable components of daily life and economic growth. This often comes with high barriers to entry, regulated returns and comparatively low sensitivity to market volatility and economic growth.
In addition, real assets are benefiting from powerful structural tailwinds. Significant long-term investment is going into sectors with substantial footprints such as electricity generation, grid renewal, data centres, telecommunications, logistics and healthcare.
Why invest in real assets?
- Distinctive exposure – Real assets benefit from long-term contractual cash flows, inflation linkage, stable and growing dividends and reduced correlation to the wider equity market.
- Liquidity and diversification – The listed market has grown and offers a variety of sectors, on top of its liquidity advantage over private structures. Being listed can also offer valuation opportunities.
- Quality approach – The Fund targets companies with a demonstrated track record of persistent cash returns and dividend growth combined with a positive outlook for capital deployment.
- Value discipline – The Fund’s bottom-up, valuation-driven stock selection is aided by a lack of thematic constraints which could lead to exposure to over-valued themes.
- Sector overlay – Top-down analysis of real asset sectors drives the assessment of risk and opportunity, maintaining a balance between infrastructure and real estate exposure.
- High conviction – The Fund invests in 35 broadly equally weighted companies, balancing the benefits of diversification with the ability of each holding to contribute meaningfully to performance.
The Guinness Global Real Assets Fund could be suitable for investors looking for exposure to companies with defensive business models, for differentiated sources of return, or for a history of stable or growing dividends.

In July, the Guinness Global Real Assets Fund returned 0.8% in USD, compared with 1.8% for the MSCI World Core Infrastructure Index, leaving the Fund 1.0 percentage point behind the index. Its underweight allocation to Industrials accounted for most of the relative shortfall, as transportation and railway companies led the index. Energy infrastructure was supported by rising oil prices, Real Estate was the second-strongest index sector and Utilities declined modestly as longer-dated bond yields rose. The Fund nevertheless remained 0.2 percentage points ahead of the index year to date and marked its first anniversary on 7 July. Company developments included National Grid’s investment in US power infrastructure, Meridian Energy’s planned solar project and Enbridge’s Sunrise gas-transmission expansion; no portfolio changes were made during the month.
