The March 2025 commentary reviews February, when the Fund returned 0.5% in GBP, compared with -1.1% for the MSCI AC Asia Pacific ex Japan Index, taking the first two months of 2025 to 3.0% versus 1.0%. Chinese consumer discretionary holdings Alibaba, Geely Auto and Meituan led relative gains, while technology holdings including Tech Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, Broadcom and Applied Materials weakened. The Fund also benefited from its overweight position in China and underweights in Australia, India and Taiwan. The report discusses China’s measured policy support, advances including DeepSeek and growing intra-regional trade, while acknowledging uncertainty from US tariffs. It concludes that momentum in China and Asia may be improving while regional valuations remain below other markets.
