Tim Guinness
Chairman and Founder

Responsibilities
Tim is the Chairman and Founder of Guinness Global Investors. He is also Portfolio Manager on the WS Guinness UK Equity Income Fund and the Guinness Global Money Managers strategy.
Background
Tim has over 50 years of investment experience. In 2003, he founded Guinness Asset Management, known as Guinness Global Investors since 2022, serving as CEO until 2019, when he was appointed Chairman.
Tim joined Guinness Mahon Merchant Bank in 1977 in their corporate finance department and went on to lead the investment management division in 1981. In 1985, he acquired a material stake in Guinness Mahon Merchant Bank, re-naming the firm Guinness Flight Global Asset Management in 1987. He served as CEO from 1987 to 1999 and was a portfolio manager of the Global Equity Fund. After Investec acquired Guinness Flight in 1998, he served as Chairman during the transition into Investec, as well as lead manager of the Investec Global Energy Fund.
He began his career at Barings, where he worked in the corporate finance department.
Tim graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in engineering. He then completed a Master’s Degree in Management Science at the MIT Sloan School of Management, in the United States.
